Gutted the stock mufflers.

So I decided to try and take out the baffles on my mufflers. I'm broke so I don't have the money to buy a new exhaust. Fist I took a two inch hole saw and drilled out the back. That made the baffle loose. Next I used a chisel and hammer to knock a hole in the screen on the other side. Then I used a metal rod and hammer to try and beat the baffle out. That did not work. It's then that I realized the baffle expands inside the muffle and it will not come. At this point I was already committed and had to figure something out. The light bulb came on and I decided to cut out a hole on the back side of the muffler. I was able to chisel off the parts of the baffle that was spot welded on the inside. I was then able to pull the baffle out of the hole. It was beat up pretty bad from me hammering on it so it came out pretty easy. On the second one I knew what to do. This time I drilled out the spot welds holding the screen in place. On the second one I had to flatten the end of the baffle a little with some pliers to get it out. I then welded over the holes I drilled and welded the plate back on that I cut out. You can not see the welded part at all when in the bike.

I like the sound of it at idle for sure. Sounds better. Not sure about it on the road yet. Seems to be ok. It is louder for sure and that's what I wanted.

Loud pipes save lives!

"So, radical baffle-ectomy, doctor?" " I concur."

Nice set of pics. A video of the new sounds would be cool too.

Nice job!

Hmm, well, sounds kinda throaty without the annoying atv putt-putt. Maybe it's punched out baffles that causes the putt.

Looks like the idle may be a bit low, but it doesn't seem to be suffering by the sound of it. Not usually good for oil pressure though.

It was cold and I just started it so that is probably why the idle was down.

Garage
Sounds nice - if you are happy with the volume it may be worth keeping the goats belly on. Really liked how that sounded.
