Question Getting real hot even when riding

Hey guys, just got a new radiator installed for my '86 rebuild project. I've been riding her around lately and noticed that she likes to stay a little toasty. I'm talking about 3/4 up on the temperature gauge. Even when the bike is moving 60 mph, the gauge still sticks high. Any ideas?

I'd like to note too that I haven't been able to test out the cooling abilities yet until that new radiator came in, the old rad had a crack in it causing antifreeze to leak.

Also the fan kicks on as intended when the bike isn't moving

should run near the first two marks on the gauge, when it goes above that the fan should come on even if you riding. running the bike too lean will make that gauge run in the middle. check to make sure your plugs are not white, light brown is ok but the bike will run hotter, I like to have the plugs a dirty looking brown, runs cooler but not as fast. I get over 40 miles per gallon but at 45-50 mpg might be on the lean side. somebody posted about seeing the coolant move under the cap when its running but i'm not sure how to do that

I did not. Will air in the system really cause that big of a temperature difference? Also I read up on it today and I'll definitely be bleeding it first thing in the morning, i'm just curious

Air can cause big temp swings at the gauge. Warm it up and open the bleeder, you'll probably hear the air.

Normal temp on mine is dead in the middle of the gauge or slightly below. Up past 3/4 to the red, it's getting hot, as in the fan probably quit or it's low on coolant, never goes past halfway in hot weather.

mine never went past half and the fan would never come on when it was moving.
