Help with waterpump

I am fixing my sons 2002 750 Vulcan.I am replacing the mechanical seal and when I removed the impeller the seal was trashed. My Manuel (not the best) states that there is just the mechanical seal and the little o-ring at the end of the shaft.I miked out the seal and the coupling that it goes in and there is around a quarter inch from the bottom of the seal to the coupling.Does anything else go in there? From what my Manuel states that only a small O-ring and the mechanical seal and impeller go on the shaft. Thanks For your time,Tom Click image for larger version
