TDC mark accurate?

Has anyone ever noted that, in order for the two alignment holes in the camshaft sprockets to completely line-up with the top of the head, that the arrow on the crank had to point to the letter 'T' on the 'TD stamp' instead of the indicator line next to that stamp?

Basically, is there ANY reason to doubt the integrity of the indicator mark, assuming that all other shafts (crank, intermediate) and sprocket-to-chain positions are correct?
