Caleb, you might watch that auction and keep looking around, should be able to find one for less. I'm just a bargain hunter, time is more valuable than money for some, I know.

I tried communicating with him and he realized it was an '86, then said it was a 1000cc engine rather than a 750. When I asked him if the motor ran, his response was 'Yea put it will need work to put into it for it to go'. I'm not quite sure what he meant by that, but clearly he's not on top of his game.
A couple of you guys are really getting your feet wet on the VN. I've built car engines, bikes, even nuclear subs over in Newport News. But when I built a 75hp outboard, I thought, "dang this is like a Swiss watch!" Then I saw the inside of this 750.
Good thing is, you have Roach's videos already.
My engine experience is pretty limited. My grandfather led me through rebuilding a lawnmower engine when I was a teenager, and maybe 15 years ago I rebuilt a 2.8 in my old Bronco II with somebody else leading the way. Both of those had nothing on this. Like you said, though, the videos Roach put together are excellent. The shop manual is also pretty clear. My only frustration with it ties to the grainy pictures and the way it sometimes jumps around. Occasionally I'd pull a part off and later realize I needed it in place to lock things together to loosen another bolt. In one case, I somehow missed a step of removing the transmission cover. Easy enough to remedy, but I have no idea when that step was intended to take place and how I missed it. Still, all in all it's been pretty straight forward. Now I have a giant Rubbermaid tote full of carefully labelled bags of parts. Hopefully the reassembly process won't be too terrible.
