Engine starving??

I have a 89 Vulcan 750. It start very easily and idle well. As soon as I put it in first gear and try to go by increasing the gas, the engine does not have power to take off. It seems to be starving from fuel or ??

Any idea on what might be the issue?

Thanks,

Charles

As soon as I let the clutch out the engine does not have power to get going. There is no problem with brake as I rode the bike to the store and then got stuck there trying to come back. I am thinking it might be a vacuum leak or something with the timing advance... hoping somebody has an explanation and fix for it.

Thanks,

Charles

Check your kickstand switch to see if it is sticking.

I am not real good at diagnosing engine problems, but the vacuum leak sounds to me to be the more likely problem. Since the problem happened immediately after a ride with no previous problem, a cracked hose or other rubber part is a possibility.

There is no timing advance adjustment on the vn700/750 engine without doing the deliberate modification found in this link:

Is the kickstand switch sticking prevent the engine to run normally?
