Hot Exhaust

Hi all. I recently stripped of the old tatty exhaust heat covers on my bike. I put on new mufflers and wrapped the exhaust. I have put on a couple of heat shields to protect my legs. Problem is the heat shields get really hot.

Anyone know a fix for this. Thanks

the less contact heat shields or their attaching parts have to the exhaust pipes the cooler they can be. also space between the shield and the pipe is important, the larger the gap, the cooler the shield will be

Maybe the wrap is between the shield and the pipe and taking up too much space. Causing more transfer into the shield. ??

Isn't the wrap supposed to make the pipe retain more heat, to help with exhaust scavenging? So not intended as heat shielding. That may be making more heat available to transfer into the shield. A bare pipe would shed more heat down the length of it.

Thanks for the replies guys. Heat shields are attached to the exhaust wrap by jubliee clips. There isnt much of a gap with these having to be tightened quite firmly. Cant really see the point in them as they same to tranfer the heat directly from the exhaust. Think I am just gonna take the leap and get VN cruzrs and put them on. Exhaust wrapping was the cheaper option but doesnt seem to work out.
