Engine Gaskets or Sealer

Just wondering about opinions about using gaskets or sealer. I have heard that the sealer can block the oil passages but as its used on the crankcase itself I cant see why it cant be used on the outside covers. I read this on a Ducati forum.

Just use the gaskets man. Sure it could work or it could be like the bike I have in my garage now that when you crank it over it dumps all its oil everywhere.
