rejet?

I don't know if this has been asked in another post, didn't see it when I searched but here goes.

I plan on doing an ear shave before summer but currently do not have the funds for the air cleaners and such due to remodel my wife's bathroom, I am straight piping my bike right now and getting ready to pull the tank off to paint and figured while I had it off I could go ahead and rejet the carbs and shim the needles. Will it hurt to rejet with factory air boxes still on with straights?

also what is the best place to pick up the jets and shims? thanks all for your time

With straight pipes, it should need the jets.

I rounded up a bunch of links for jets when I was looking into it, I'll see if I have them.
What part of the state are you located?

Found my Uni PK filters under $30 on Ebay. Didn't need jets after my earshave for some reason.

Mcdowell lol southern wv. I am bobbing the bike and ordered my tail lights, mirrors, and bars just don't want to go overboard until the bathroom is finished which should be bout a month. But I was going to go ahead and rejet make it easier with the tank off. How can you tell if you need to rejet or not I have not really worked on any bikes

general concensous is you will probably need to rejet.

however, every bike is different, what works for one, may not work for another

It's best to read the plugs and see how it's burning. But in my experience, open pipes on anything, needs jets.

I was all set to rejet mine, then decided to wait and see. If anything, it's still rich.

Bathrooms are never cheap or quick. I pushed for 32hrs straight to finish mine, just so I could shower at home, it was taking too long.

You're closer to emtdon than me, I'm up in Wood co.

yea I have talked to emtdon he lives about 15mins away from my mom. We will all have to get together and ride this summer. And her bathroom is a pain I can work on anything mechanical but by no means am I a carpenter lol. anyways I have been looking into the rejetting in phils ear shave it mentions using 142 main jets but some sites only have 140s and 145s would it be better to go a size smaller or a size higher to start out with?

I think a lot of riders here have been using a 140 main and 40 pilot.

Order 4 Emgo pod filters for a 1000cc Kawi Concourse...works out to $7 each, and unless ya live in a dustbowl, ya use 1 filter per year...
