clacking noise

First I'd like to thank everyone for their help on getting my wife's bike started, it starts and idles on it's own, but I noticed a clacking noise coming from the front cylinder it comes and goes, the p/o installed a set of V&H pipes, but I don't know if re-jetted, could this be the problem ? thank you.

Question

Is this, one clack, or several then it stops?

Hot .. cold?

Reason I ask, .. Mine will give one clack and a sneeze from the front carb on warmups if I don't keep the idle up. If I take off before warmup, it will do it as I'm riding also.

I'm assuming it's one intake valve on the front cylinder that's sticky when it's cold. Not much else it could be in my case.

I put some Seafoam in the oil about 1000 miles back, no change except it only happens if the rpms get too low during warmup. Before that, it was happening randomly during rides.

The sneeze in the carb always coincides with one clack from the front cyl. Noise from the excess slack being taken up in the rocker arm clearance, created by the valve being stuck open momentarily.

I always had that same sneeze. Could feel it on my right knee if I had shorts on.

Well she starts up and sounds good, then when I give it a little throttle the clacking starts, after about a couple of minutes it stops, I don't let it run that long in case it's something serious.

As Ole Doc said... try the "Grambo Trick" if that cures it, look into making a set of MCCTs or getting a set of TOC MCCTs...
