Cool Rattle?

Well I finally got the 86 VN 750 mobile, and have noticed a rattle under acceleration. I'm assuming it's pinging, perhaps too far advanced, any other suggestions?

A VN750 raffle ?...Cool !!!....how much and where do I send ?.....(jk)

....rattle, eh....check all yer tin and plastic covers first.....could be vibration....Ive also heard detonation sound like "rattle" (pinging)....try fillin up with a tank of high test and see what happens....
Also, after a 200mi or so ride, check yer plug condition and report back...severe detonation will show on the plugs...can also put a hole in your piston....

Did you make sure to get all the exhaust clamps tightened down?

Garage
Most times a rattle is something external, heat sheild, licence plate, etc.

Engine wise can be a loose cam chain, but rarely is it detonation. Never have seen a case of that here. (So you'd be the first)

Sure your fuel is good?

Mine used to sound like a tin maraca. Turns out, it's the gas tank. If I loosen the front bolts slightly and then yank up on the tank while I'm sittin on the bike and tighten it under the pull, it comes off whatever it is plinking against. Bike even seems to run better in my little head.

mine had a horrible rattle or 2..

one was solved when I yanked my rattling glove box off the back

other when I tighted my chin strap on the helmet more to hold my head together tighter
