Cylinder Squeak

Hey there folks -

So, every time I start my bike, and pretty much whenever it's running, there's a squeaking sound akin to a lower scale squealing belt on a car. This sound is coming from the top of the rear cylinder, and having just replaced my ACCTs, it's driving me nuts. Any ideas?

It could be any of those - It almost sounds like the piston is pushing air out of the cylinder through a small hole. However, the engine responds well to throttle and pulls well. Not really sure. I'll take a video soon and put it up on youtube.

Have you done any recent work to your engine, had it apart at all?

Nope, not yet. This is my first bike actually, and have gotten my hands dirty only by changing the oil and lubing the final drive splines/driveshaft assemblies. I also added some MCCT recently, although I can't remember if the squeak was there before or after adding those.

If the noise was not there before replacement, I would pull it back apart. Not run it. More experience should be here soon.

If it wasn't making the noise before you did the mcct upgrade I'm thinking maybe you've tightened the cam chain adjustment too much, putting too much tension on the chains and the cam bearings might be torqued.

thats what i am thinking too easy way to find out is to loosen the mcct up and see what happens and do it quick before you damage the cam journals you sont want to be buying a head

Well, I checked it out, and it still made the sound with the MCCT's backed out (with some clacking going on from the lack of pressure.) However, an older video I took one can hear the squeaking sound. So it's run for about 1000 miles pretty well, since I bought it.
