So where is my coolant going????

Inital thought was head gasket. Compression test yield a healthy 160 in each cylinder. Next thought was mechanical seal behind water pump impeller, drained oil last night and it looks fine, nothing but oil. Plugs look normal, not like burning coolant in with the gas/air mix.

No external leaks that I can see, nothing drips (or smells) while ride, no accumulation under the bike when it sits.

Yet, used an entire overflow bottle of coolant going back and forth to work, 75 miles!

Developing a good Nancy Drew Mystery here!

Did you pull the right crankcase cover to double-check the impeller and mechanical seal? The only other thing I can think is that you've overfilled your coolant (reservoir level should be measured when the bike is hot) and that you've just expelled the excess through the drain hose while riding.

Perhaps the Hardly Boys can help out Nancy??

Cindy -

Wouldn't the excess going out the overflow tube generate the nomal A/F stink? Because I never smell a drop, even sitting at a light.

It should, although the last time I used Dexcool, it didn't smell much at all. What kinda coolant you using?

Hmm, with Gremlins afoot here, maybe Scooby Doo and friends would be better detectives for this mystery?! LOL

How sure are you that the coolant in the rad was full?
Maybe it was low and then filled up with what was in the overflow bottle?
Or have you been needing to fill the bottle often?

Have you had a chance to ride with someone following ya, to see if they notice any coolant smell?

I can't say I've heard of Gremlins being too much into drinking that much coolant. But it's gotta be going somewhere !!

Scooby Doo..... Where are you ??!!

Garage
My coolant question... it doesn't seem to matter whether my coolant is low or filled to the brim -- the level looks the same! What's up with that?!
