Bike wont stay running past 3/4 choke

My bike is now not wanting to stay running if it has less than 3/4 choke. After my ride I stopped at a gas station and filled up on 93 premium. My oil engine light came on and I after putting it up on the center stand, I could see oil in the glass but it was low. I filled it back up and the light went off. After filling it up, the bike now won't run unless its on 3/4 choke or if I am.riding and giving it throttle. A friend cleaned the carbs for me 3 weeks ago and I have put 600 miles plus since with no issue. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It's a 1995 vn750, with only 20,000 miles on it. I changed the oil originally at 18750 miles and spark plugs at 16,550 miles.

I myself am a noob at the mechanical side of things. I do have people who.can help bit I am sure having an awesome group of Vulcan owners on this forum have seen this problem before.

Any help would be appreciated

The choke is actually a fuel en-richment. Sounds like to me that your idle jets are possibly clogged. Mine did just as you said yours was doing. My bike ran fine, just had to have choke on all the time.

04-3,200 miles bought July 2011 with 928 miles. Loaded with acessories to many to list here, see my albums for more details! I also make a custom tank bib specific for the 750 if anyone is interested, ck my albums for some pics.

Were you able to clean the jets? Afterwards, did it fix the issue? Or did you continue to run it with the choke on? Is there any hazards or things I.could damage of I did that?

Were you checking the oil right after the oil light came on? If so, the oil level will be low with a warm engine, especially a running warm engine. If you added oil, you may have too much oil in there now. This may be causing your problems. Please verify if you checked the oil with a warm engine or cold. Thanks.

I only understand what I don't understand.

I checked the oil on a cold engine. It was showing at the low line. I only added two quarts. Then checked and its showing full now on a cold engine. Definately a good good thing to check.

Ok, good. At least that detail is cleared up.

The enrichment (choke) circuit should not hurt anything, however it has no access to the pilot air jet. No emulsification, so it should not deliver sufficient volume of fuel to supply the pilot circuit. About like installing way too large a pilot jet.

2 quarts ? Holly Goats Belly !
No wonder the oil light came on !
hope you are aware the wet clutch use's the oil and the Stator is cooled by the oil !
ps: Check oil level on the center stand after a 5 min shutdown.

OP prolly leaves a black line whenever he rides, lol! Yeah, 2 quarts is a lot! That's half the oil capacity needed.

First thought would be a bad tank of gas. The problem I've run into with a couple of stations is they don't sell a whole lot of premium (which is what I run in mine) and I've got a couple bad tanks from them. I just don't go there anymore...

It could be something stuck in one of the jets, water in one or both of the fuel bowls, etc... which could have come from bad gas. Get her out on the highway and give it a little italian tune up, see if the problem clears itself. If it is bad gas, at least you'll have burned some.
