Hats off to you for your ingenuity! Man... When I first joined the Forum, that was one of the things that impressed me the most - folks were just making their own parts ("Oh, I think I'll go build a stator...what gauge wire and how many windings?"). I can't imagine ever being that facile with the tools - or even my knowledge of the bike - to be a 750 McGiver.

if it don't work you loose nothing, but gain an insight in to how you might make it work next time. if it works you gain a working part, knowlage, and you did it so it's the only one like it and you gain the all important 'grin factor' best high in the world!!!

Looks good

I have an extra set (one kinda good one I traded to a Y! member for a stripped out one) that I'm going to try to do the same thing with.

Did you do anything to seal the threads? And, did you just round off the inside end of the bolt?

I thought about making my own too but opted for a set of Ape's I should be getting tommorrow. I cant believe how poorly the stock acct's are made.
I bought my bike with 800 miles on it and the tapping noise. Tryed the gambo trick with no luck. Took the acct apart and rewound the spring 4 times. After alot of swearing I got it back together only to have the retainer pop off just before reinstalling it on the bike. No I didnt strech the retainer, yes it was in the groove, and yes the open end was between the slots. After alot more swearing, got it rewound and back together. Checked the action on the plunger, when it is all the way out it puts alot of stress on the retainer. enough to bend it slightly (this is at 4 turns on the spring). decided it was safe to put back on the bike figuring that the plunger would not be fully extended when installed. Took it for a ride, noise is gone and it runs better then ever, timing must have been off before. However after seeing how unreliable these are and frustrating to work on I think the manual cct is the way to go.
For a $113.00 Dollars its one more thing (could be a big thing) I dont have to worry about anymore.
Good job on the home made ones Edalbris.

I HAVENT SEALED THEM YET BUT I WILL USE A SEMI SETTING COMPOUND, AND THE END CAP FROM THE STD ACCT's IS ONLY HELD ON WITH A DOWL PIN, PUNCH IT OUT DRILL A HOLE IN THE END OF YOUR BOLT FIT IT ON THE BOLT PUSH THE PIN BACK IN.
