I believe that also requires a case split, and the stuff you are doing does not. I wouldn't mess with it unless you have an actual problem. If I was splitting the case I'd do the shift shaft linkage, but only if I was splitting the case.
You can always pop off the other side cover and check the status of your water impeller and the mechanical seal behind it. If it doesn't look good replace them. I did (engine was still in the bike).
