need engine info for mod

I need to know a few things. i figured i woul ask here first before getting told byt he local kawa dealer that i should just buy a bigger bike lol

i need to know the fireing sequence of the jugs in refference to rotations of the crankshaft.... I.e. cyl 1 at top dead center about to enter combustion stoke is 0 deg... when does cyl 2 fire, 270 deg's later? then cyl 1 again at 450 degs later?

also does any one know if our ignition system triggers at the leading or trailing edge?

and also if anyone could shed some light on the duration of the cam, and size of the valves that would be great....

Do you have the shop manual??? I believe most of the answers to your questions are in there.
I'll check my Clymer's as well and get back to you.

I just looked in both the manuals I have and although it gives cam lobe height, it doesn't give a duration. I also can't find the timing sequence. All it says is that it is IC controlled and no adjustment can be made. I do know that it's supposed to fire 5 Degrees BTC. The front cylinder fires first and I believe the rear would indeed fire 270 degrees later. The valve sizes are:
Intake, Outside diameter, 30.9-31.3mm
Exhaust, Outside diameter, 26.9-27.1mm

I'll have to dig deeper for the rest.

he he, it will no longer be IC controlled.... the EFI unit i want to install also can control the ignition timeing very well. You can program it to adjust the spark on several factors from temp, rpm, load (map sensor), and throttle position. I cant wait... i guess when i do my cross over, i can always set up the igniton controler up to a dummy model and see...

no vn uses wasted spark so fires on EVERY TDC on BOTH cylinders
ignition pickups are on alternator rotor and 1:1 with crank not 1:2 like a car distributor

humm... well i know it is wasted spark, just for some reason i though that the timing may have to be adjusted..... anyway. have you changed to the 0-90 set up? how is the vibration? power curve? does the flywheel have enough mass?

YES, MAKES IT MORE THUMPY DOES NOT EFFECT CRANK BALANCE SO VIBE NOT A PROBLEM.
HAD A LOOK AT MY OLD SCRIBLINGS LAST KNIGHT AND IT IS ACTUALY
0 THEN 60 OR O THEN 420AS THE VN IS A 60 DEG. V
SO STD. IS No.1 AT 0 DEG. No.2 AT 420 DEG. No.1 AGAIN AT 720 DEG.
NON STD.IS No.1 AT 0 DEG. No.2 AT 60 DEG. No.1 AGAIN AT 720 DEG.
