little rattle to big rattle

i have a 86 vulcan and it had a little that sounded like people here say about the accp i think so i tried the gambro thing but i did it a few times went to test ride and got around the corner and it sounded like it was coming apart by the time i could get back home,it sounds like a chain is very loose,i am no mech thinking it may be fried

Check the heat shields over the mufflers/pipes...they can drive ya nuts.

Indeed. Use a long screwdriver like a stethoscope to help pinpoint the location. You may find the source isn't the engine after-all.

Really, its often something dumb...was riding to my elderly Moms the other day...at around 55, hear weird noises....pulled off....turned out that my visor (I switched to a transluscent from my solid Bell), the snaps werent too tight and were rattling in the wind....who'd have thought ?

was looking at it and noticed that a bolt was missing from front of crankcase and gasket was sticking out with oil dripping,not looking good

Have a little visor on my half helmet that did the same thing. Little drop of super glue took care of that.

I just dabbed a lill silly-cone on mine and was fine...but I was certain it was coming from the motor....jest goes to show.....it aint ALWAYS the beast's fault......

Buy an extra bolt and a new gasket... fix.

Also, when the engine is running, see if you can listen around and see if the rattling is coming from the cylinders or if the source of the sound is elsewhere.

Your engine is not dead yet.

P.S. Check your oil too.

would that one bolt missing make it sound like its coming apart it sounds like a very loose chain or something,ive checked and sounds like it is coming from the acct area
