Question about H.L.A's

Looking for information about the action of the H.L.a.'s. I recently bled the lash adjusters from the front cyl. While submersed in kerosene with a rod inserted in the center of the plunger, the plunger springs up and down about 3/16 of an inch. When removed from the kerosene with the rod removed, it seems there is virtually no downward movement or cushion action. I thought there would be at least a slight cushion action but there doesn't seem to be any give at all. Is this the normal action or what?

From Clymer manual, Chapter 4, Table 1, page 216:
Hydraulic lash adjuster leak down distance--Spec is 0 to 0.2 mm. Wear limit--0.2 mm

If your bike is fairly low mileage, zero movement seems to be normal and in spec.
