Can any one send me a sound bite?

My 86 VN750 makes a deep thumping sound when first starting up. When you rev it it smoothes right out. As I have never heard one of these start up and run I have no idea if this is right of not. Can some one please do a recording of there well running engine starting up cold and after a few rev it up? Thanks

I'll try to do that for you tomorrow but do you have means to record your engine so we can hear it? That way you'll have many ears to help you decide if it's a problem or just a typical vocal VN. They do talk to you .

Probly the cam tensioner. I had the same problem- went away when warm. Good Luck!

no problem (I like otters too) I'll try to record mine tonight before I take off, and when it's cold. Cam chain tensioners are usually the most common and mine are pretty quiet since I converted them but maybe you'll hear it and it will sound the same as yours and ease your mind.

I tried just recording a sound file but it came out peutrid so I did a very quick video because of the size. I'll try again with a digital recorder and not the phone to see if that's better.

That's a nice sounding engine! I have a clip of mine, but it's definitely noisy, so it wouldn't help to determine what a normal one should sound like. Here's what mine sounds like:

Yup, I'm half expecting it to explode lol.
