From my experience, I always looked at replacing the rings as cheap insurance once down that far. As for honing, you don't have to go crazy. but I would run a hone through the jugs just to break up any glazing. Then wipe a good coat of oil on the walls for assembly. The inexpensive hones that fit on a drill work just fine for that, just work it in and out to get a decent cross-hatch.
