loosing power at low RPMs

I am not bright when it comes to engines. During a long ride my bike (2005) started jerking and the tach started bouncing. It doesn't have a problem when the clutch is in or in idle. At high RPMs the jerking smooths out, but isn't gone (cause I can still see the tach twitching).

No mods. I recently topped off the oil - but used a thinner 10-40 instead of 15-40. It doesnt stink and there isn't metal on metal.

During your long ride, did you stop and get gas? And then the jerking started? Or was the bike was parked for awhile then shortly after riding again did it start jerking? Just trying to eliminate a couple things. Bad gas or a thing they call on here POOGS ( Phantom Out Of Gas Syndrom). Or does your bike do this all the time?
