Balancer and shaft alignment question?

If the balancer and shaft are not aligned correctly(dots not lined up).

Will it make noise as well as shake?

Or just shake?

Thanks.

I'm not sure if it would make any noise, but it will shake, and possibly cause engine damage.

Look for a small mark on the balancer. This should line up with a small arrow on the rotor. I use to have pics of it but I can't find it & The free online manual has too poor of pics to see it clearly. If I'm not mistaken the mark on the balancer is about a .25" line near the teeth. Good Luck.

P.S. It will shake like crazy if it's off.

I guess it depends how off the alignment is, I have mine off by a few teeth and if vibrated not to bad but enough to blur all images in the mirrors. It got it aligned over the weekend and also replaced the balancer bushings... not that they where gone but certainly they were hardened and must likely would have needed replacement in a year or two. There are other posts where they report similar situations.

I have a vibration/shaking problem. Does this balancer problem affect it while just sitting or is it only when moving?

Since any engine vibration is a result of the engine parts rotating, not any driveline components or the wheels, I would say the engine will vibrate/shake just sitting still too.
