ticking when cold

just picked up my first bike, 02 750, got a loud ticking when cold coming from what i can tell is the upper part of the head/valve area. once the engine is warm is gets alot quieter so thinking of just swapping in some 20w50 to quiet it down. the previous owner had put a Manuel cam tensioner in on the rear cylinder, is the noise while cold comon on these bikes? thanks.

Is the ticking from the front cylinder? I'd bet the front cam tensioner is bad, or the rear one needs tightened (depending on where the noise is coming from).

A lot of these bikes don't like 20/50. If your noise is coming for the top of the motor, I'd say it's the front tensioner. Look up the Grambo trick to test it
