Sqealing noise from bike

Took a ride last weekend, noticed an intermittent sound, something like a belt slipping, seemed to come from right side but I could not trace it exactly. Of course as soon as i get the Stethoscope out it goes away.

Digging through the forums the consensus seems to be the water pump shaft retainer clip is defunct allowing the shaft to move and the noise is the pump vane rubbing against the engine side case. Fix is an engine out and split to repair/replace the shaft retainer!

Would this result in aluminum shavings appearing in the coolant? I would like to diagnose further without disassembling if I can.

I'd guess that the bearing would have to get a lot worse before you would see shavings in the coolant, probably get a constant squeal and would see coolant in the oil first.

Coffee grinder can produce a bit of squeal, but it's real brief.
