Gear shifter

I am trying to get my gear shifter off my bike. I read one time that if I did it wrong I could cause a clip to come off it the engine and dont want to do that. Anyone have any recommendations on how to do this?

Blessings!
Richard

Grace and Peace to you!

Take the bolt all the way out. It fits in a slot on the shifter shaft and won't let the lever slide off even though it relieves the tension.

Find the appropriate size flat head screwdriver(you'll have to experiment) and drive it perpendicular to the shaft into the lever clamp slot, thus relieving clamp tension so you can slide(not drive) it off.
When putting it back on do the same and don't drive it on.

Blessings back at ya'!

And be sure to mark its position before you remove it!
