Batwing fairing

Just got my Memphis shades windshield kit.. Now.. Do I buy a normal shield or do I save up and buy the batwing which I really like. My neck has gotten so bad that long rides cause me some serious pain the next day. So I need some kind of shield I think. Does anyone have the batwings? Does it help deflect the wind a lot? Do the regular wind shields help a lot? Sadly the batwing is $300 + another $100 for the shield on top.

If you really like the batwing, I would hang fire and save up for that, then you'll have what you want and secondly not regret shelling out for a cheaper alternative.

Can't give any advice on what screen is the best as I don't have one fitted myself.

I switched helmets this year and the difference is night/day. The aerodynamics of the new helmet are so much better, it's like having a windshield. My neck hasn't been a problem since.

Switched from a Bell Hornet to a Nolan N-Com modular. No more buffeting, no twisting my head off when I look to the side.

Couldn't believe how much better it was.

Not to derail Nitro's thread, I just don't have a lot of windshield info. I know Kanuck had a batwing on his and I really liked the look. Was ready to get a windshield this year for many of the same reasons, until I got this helmet.

I think the batwing would give more coverage on your body/chest than a smaller windshield, unless you go with one of the Plexifairing models. I have read of some still complaining of head buffeting after installing a shield, but that may just be a matter of height adjustment.

Did you get the radio-com unit? Kind of in the dark about that. I got the cord but no radio. Would like to adapt the plug so I could at least have tunes. Or else find the right box for the helmet.

It's amazing how much more aero this helmet is, almost like no wind hitting my head at all. Even with the shield open, or the chin bar up. With the Bell, it was no time before my neck muscles started acting up. I avoided head checks because the Bell tried to twist my head off.

Fairly certain the Nolan is lighter than my Bell, weight is shown on the back of the Nolan.

Yes I bought the N-Com B3 unit to go with mine, it's great, audio really clear and one touch control. I believe the new B5 model is meant to be even better.

The Nolan N-44 is a great helmet. I have 2 of them. But they are loud and require ear plugs. As for the n-com, the problem is it can only talk with other n-coms. The sena 10r attaches to the side and works great. As for windshields, I saw a post on Vulcan.com that said he made his own shield. I'll try to find it. Good luck.

Someone on a Honda forum pointed me towards a mutazu fairing. It's about $100 cheaper. Also mounts right up to the Memphis shades hardware I have already.

I have a Harley shield similar in shape to the ones on the Road Kings.
It is certainly better than no shield at all on cool days.

I took a Road King and a Harley Ultra Glide for 22 -24 mile demo rides on a very windy day a couple of years ago. Like 45 mph side winds for most of the ride. I hardly noticed the wind on the Ultra behind the Batwing fairing. The extra 400 pounds plus of weight over my VN probably helped too.

The Road King weighs about 700 lb, and was buffeted less than the VN, with similar shields, but more than the Batwing.
