windshield material

Found a very reasonable windshield on ebay that I think I would like. Was looking for something unobtrusive like a spitfire and found one that's a bit taller but made out of "high quality ABS".

http://www.ebay.com/itm/171360628284...S:1123&vxp=mtr

Guessing ABS would be fine for a windshield but must admit I don't know much about it. Any opinions?

Wasn't aware there was a clear ABS.

Most windscreens are acrylic or Lexan. Lexan is the toughest but needs an anti scratch coating. Acrylic is used in aviation alot.

But sorry, no personal experiance with windscreens made from ABS.

Are there not four attachment points? I made my lowers out of Optix Acrylic from Lowes. Seems very strong (1/4 inch I think) and very clear. Says it doesn't yellow.

ABS is a tough flexible plastic. The Pontiac Fiero has its entire body made from it. Legos are ABS....
As I mentioned, first time I have heard of a clear ABS as it is usually opaque.
I'm not sure how scratch resistant it is... Or if they coat it. (Polycarbonate screens AKA Lexan, are usually given an a scratch resistant coating)

I suggest you get one and let us know how it does...

I ended up getting it. I think it looks good. Can get a pic up in a day or two if interested. Like I said, a bit taller so a bit less helmet turbulence. A bit of distortion looking thru it, but that's really not what it's for. As far as durability and scratch resistance - only miles will tell . I'll keep it for a while.

And for the $, I doubt it's been coated w/anything.
