Ammo Can Luggage part deux

Some of you saw the original post where I'd put ammo cans on my bike. I'd planned on painting them quickly after installing them - but a combination of bad painting weather and an unfortunate spill prevented doing so. You can see the damage done to one of the cans (now painted over) and I've also included a pic of where the front fork slid and ground some material away.


A look at how the supports are attatched to eachother - 1/8 inch 1 1/4 inch angle iron.

How the supports are attatched to the bike - this is what would stay if I took the cans off for some reason.

By the way - I'll post pics of the full bike in the sun tomorrow - and with the lids on the cans. The paint wasn't fully cured tonight, so I didn't want to put the lids on since that will be a high wear area, and since this is oregon it was raining outside (nevermind that it was getting dark).

Sorry to hear about the spill. A little damage to the bike isn't so bad. The question is, was there any damage to the rider? I'm assuming you're okay since you didn't post about any hospital visits. If that is so I am glad for you. It's obvious you can handle repairs to the bike, even if they have to wait for funds.

The ammo cans look as though they have decent capacity. With a new paint job on the tins you could get a real post apocalyptic look going!

Yeah, the spill was a while back - was glad I had the cans on, I'm sure they saved my ass. Had waited to paint the cans after that since I wanted to make sure there wasn't hidden damage to the bike.

I was in good enough shape after the spill to go up to chemistry and ace my test The shaking stopped AFTER that class once I had time to think about it. I had no road rash, just a couple bruises and bruised pride.
