cant reset trip meter

hi guys

i cant reset trip meter the black knob i can twist i see the digits twitch but no reset just can keep twisting to no succes?

any ideas?

I live by my trip meter to help me know the fuel level since the fuel gauge can be a little erratic. Probably time to replace the speedometer. You may be able to buy a speedometer and open it up and get just the trip odometer out and swap it with your bad one. I've never gone inside my bike's speedometer before but if probably is fairly simple. Maybe someone else on this site can tell you how hard it would be to swap trip meters.

thanks ill wait for more advice.
by the way i do use the trip meter still by just adding up to see when i have to re-fuel.
so its not busted completely but just cant reset.

Take the back cover off and super glue the re-set gear to the small shaft. It sounds like the spline has striped on the knob shaft. My 86 parts bike spedo did that.
