New Boots & Shifter

Have purchased two new styles of zip up and velcro close type safety ridding boots but dont seem to have much luck in getting either pair of boots to shift the gear shifter right. Both pairs of boots feel really tight and have an extra layer of leather on top to take care of wearing the boot top leather off. I normally just ride with my dessert storm type military boots and have no problems with them. Has anyone tried to lengthen the top arm on the gear shifting toe piece? I have had other riders tell me to just wear the new boots for 3 or 4 days all day long to get the feel for them, that didnt seem to help either. At a loss here guys. Any help would be appreciated.

Got a new pair of Milaukee boots myself for CHRISTMAS. Thicker sole raises my toe height and with the 900 seat I sit lower so that changed the angle of the shoe position and with bad anckles the shifter is to low now. Adjust it up one notch , the engine guard is in the way. In other words I feel your pain. I've got a 900 heel/toe shifter coming that I am going to try making forward controls for my highway pegs. I already have checked to see if I could match the 900 shifter to the standard pegs and I believe with alittle effert and some duct tape it could be done. May try both. Shifter is in the mail so it want be this weekend.

I must have a different look on boots for road ridin... I know HD must have a hundred different ridin boots, but none you could give me... In my younger days when I was a dirt bike nut I wore lineman boots mostly, now that I only ride a street bike I like the pull on Roper type boots, they have low heels and lighter treaded soles, they are not pointed toes like Cowboy boots, they are lighter and don't have the heavy lugged soles to hang or drag around on the pegs, shifter, brakes or whatever like the macho outdoorsman boots... They just seem to work for me, but that's just me......

Here are some pretty cheap ones, made in china, leather foot, but with synthetic shaft which probably would be ok..

I wear the "Ariat Men's Heritage Roper Boot" which are bit higher priced, but those look as good...IMO...

I normal just wear 6 inch lace-up boots cause that is what I wear 12 to 14 hours a day at work. I also only wear insulated boot year around cause my foot sweats badly in plain leather. My wife got me the ones below for CHRISTmas and they fit perfectly. I can't get the slip-ons on my big foot cause of the poor ankle bend ratio.

Correction now: These have the zippers on both sides for easy on/off. Just traded the other pair in on these at the biker shop where we got the others. Lower toe height and works desently with the shifter and have a pretty flexible sole. Still going to the heel/toe if, scatch that, when I get it to work out.

Heres the correct ones now.

Thanks for the chime in guys. The 2 new pairs of high top ridding boots that i bought seem to have a higher toe top compared to the old dessert storm military boots that i normally use even if the soles are thinner. I like the idea of the heel shifter to. Would love to see a picture of that when it gets installed. Thanks to all.

My next door neighbor that I rode with a good bit before his heart attack traded his Honda Shadow for a Suzuki that had the heel toe shifter and hated it at first, I talked him into using it till he got used to it and it worked out for him, after a bit of use he liked it... Never had one myself so I really can't say...

I'm wanting to try it because the way the 750 shifter is tucked in by the engine it is hard for me to get my foot to turnstraight/toe slightly inward with the foot pointed downward since the knee replacement. Even when I stand its turned slightly outward now. When I sit down and bend my knee, my foot turns toe angled more outward than before, harder to get it under the shifter.

The heel/toe shifter on most bikes are to short for my boot to sit inbetween the end levers and I have to lift my foot to use them. Thats the good part, I can put this one where I want it. May end up with the shifter angled just a bit also.

If your foot sits pointed out more you might want to try just bending the shifter out a bit more. (Take it off the bike to do this)

I bent mine 8-10 degrees out more as my left foot doesn't point straight naturally.

I did find that my floorboards helped ALOT with heavy boots as they place your foot a bit lower than the stock peg.

I guess my take on this is if your boots make it difficult to shift, you need different boots....

Thanks Knife, gosh darn the simple things did work. Took the shifter off, bent it a few degrees and then put it back on one notch higher that it normally on the shifter rod. Works great now!
