Spare Key? Better Get One!

Hey all. I lost my only key a couple days ago & I've been looking for a solution.
I can get a used ignition w/key off ebay if I want to try a used one off an 85. A universal that after a little digging, actually does not fit or have a key made from the code off my ignition.

So I've got the ignition out & got the code & called a local locksmith who can make a key from a code & I was quoted a price of $85. For A Key! Holy SH1T!

So if you've been putting off getting a spare key made, Don't! Go Get One!

Man I hate stuff like this. lol

$85? Holy crap! Did you ask for the solid gold one by mistake?

Definitely get a spare or two made before it's too late. I got mine from my local ACE Hardware. Only cost about $1.50.

Call around man, I had one done a few years ago on another bike for $40.00. Did you check with your dealer before going to the locksmith?

You bet. That was my first call (s). I tried a couple of dealers. None would do it around here.

Total Pitta.

My Kaw dealer charges $12.50 if he has to make it from the code. I always keep an extra key hidden on the bike.

Local locksmith charges $9.50 to make from ignition, without code. After the first key, copies run $2.50 each. (iLco blanks, not the Kaw ones...) I keep a spare in the back of my wallet.

No matter where you go, there you are...

It is slim picking in zanesville. I did find a dealer 60 miles away who would make a key if I brought him a blank. They were out!

Damb it anyways. lol So I ended up finding some keys at the hardware store about 3 miles away. Ok, now I had keys & off to the dealer I go.

Got the keys made & bought all for about $16.00. But it was a real hassel.

Moral of the story... if you haven't bought a spare yet. Go Do It!
