Cigarette Lighter Outlet...

In this thread:

https://www.vn750.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14324

...I am shopping for a GPS for the bike ('89 VN750).

I've decided to go with a cheaper, but still nice Garmin Nuvi 755W gps.

Found a place that sells a bike handlebar mount for it.

Just need the cigarette lighter accessory outlet to plug it into.

Anybody got a favourite for one of those and can provide a link?

I picked up a weatherproof one from walmart that I use on my bike. I'll get a picture of it when I get home and upload it. I have it mounted just below the side cover on the right side.

Just picked up a weatherproof one at my local Wally World.

I'd like to see a photo of how / where you mounted it.

On my 2003 the previous owner removed the reflector on the right side and replaced it with a cigarette lighter with a rubber cover. I keep the heating element in the tank bag but never use it. It comes in handy for mini-airpump, gps, cell phone power

I attached a Powerlet adapter to the AUX leads off the battery terminal (it's a kit with the product code PKT-043-B, like this one on eBay). I removed the rear hex bolt for the right footpeg, then mounted it right there with an 8mm diam., 1.25mm thread, 40 mm long bolt I picked up from the bin at Home Depot for some pocket change. I use it to recharge my battery with a tender, to recharge my iPhone while riding if necessary, and to connect heated gloves in cold weather.

For a cig adapter you can get another adapter to Powerlet, or maybe they make a native cigarette lighter adapter.

Hey newOldUser, i like that power adapter you got.
How does it hook up? direct to the battery? Theres a link to a Powerlet one but its freaking $49.

Someone said they got a cheap one at walmart? From the automotive section? whats the brand/cost, lol.
I'm just looking for something cheap that will charge my phone/mp3 player etc.

Thanks

gcextreme,

I've never had reason to pull that panel and look at the brand or how it's wired. I can tell you that there are two additional wires connected to my battery (one on + and one on - ). I can also tell you that the socket serves up power all the time. It is not tied to the key. So, my feeling is that the previous owner just ran two wires to the battery. With any luck there may be a fuse in the line somewhere.

It's been working just great for the 3 years I've had the bike.
