'89 Side Cover Question

My side covers are chrome with Vulcan 750 on them. The Vulcan is in gold letters and the 750 is red. I thought these were the stock colors, but the red paint is coming off a little on one side and there is gold underneath the red. Can others with an '89 tell me what their side cover lettering color(s) is/are?

I'm keepin' all the left over parts. I'm gonna use 'em to build another bike!

Flitecontrol, check out THIS LINK and scroll down to tank colors. It states the 1989 tank color was ebony and the side cover was gray.

Found a descrepency though. The post states the side cover is gray, but above it says the side cover is chrome for '87 - '98.

I've seen enough detail in pics of "89s here to know the standard side cover color on the black (ebony) bikes is chrome. Just couldn't find one with a close up of the 750 to see if it was red (assuming that was the original color).

Hmm. Like the red, gives a little bit of color contrast. Anyone know what kind of paint I should use on the plastic cover to refresh the red, and the necessary prep work? Just need a few drops and a very small brush me thinks.

I'm keepin' all the left over parts. I'm gonna use 'em to build another bike!

I'd use model paint...that stuff (Testors?) that you use on plastic model cars, planes, etc.

It is waterproof, made to use on plastic, comes in tiny little bottles and in various colors. Hobby shops carry it along with the tiny brushes........

I took a close up of vulcan89's and you can see traces of red. So the 750 cavity is red w/gold trim.

Excellent suggestion, KM! If my brain hadn't atrophied from inhaling hot fuel proof dope fumes while painting model airplanes in my youth, I might have remembered that. Thanks!

Hey, not a problem. After all, what are friends for? BTW, on the latest pic, I noticed some minor scratches on the side cover surface. Sure would be nice if you buffed those out before I pick her up! Wouldn't want her looking unkept when she's sitting next to her sister!
