Compatible Seats

Does anyone know what other year/model Vulcan seats are semi-compatible with the 750? I say "semi" because I realize a rear hold down will have to be made. But I'm hope some other seats will match the front latch and cover the sides like the original. Here's a sample of where I'd like to go.

If I understand your question right...ALL Vulcan 750 seats are interchangable.

A seat off a 1988 model will fit right on a 2005 model and visa versa.

The bike itself changed very little in the 20+ years is was made, and ALOT of parts are thus interchangable from one model year to another.

I believe what he is asking is what other seats off of what other models has the same basic shape as the one on the VN700/750s with the same hold-down lip it the front as ours. Then he would make something to hold the back of the seat down.

That's if I'm reading it right.

ah, got it...misread it the first time.

However, I do not recall anyone reporting that any other seat they tried fit in the front tongue .... The stock seat is an odd shape and I only have heard of using other seats that needed some fabricating to make them work. I think there is someone on the forum that used a Harley seat and one that used a custom seat for a completely different bike but worked out a way to bolt it on.

Most have just altered the stock seat, or used the stock seat pan to build on.

So let us know if you find anything that works...

Yep that's right. Wondering if a Vulcan 800, 900, 1500, etc seat would be close. Mostly I would like the seat to match the tank to fender hangover to cover the frame. I know I'll have to modify the seat and/or bike for the rear hold down and maybe even the front.

I was considering ordering a 750 seat from e-bay to modify. I'd like to lose the passenger back rest if not the whole passenger pad. Maybe solo. But thought maybe another model's seat would better serve my purpose.

I know the stock Meanstreak seat is a nice fit. I purchased one off of ebay after seeing it installed on bikeronbudgets bike in the show us your VN750 thread.

the tongue groove fits, and covers the majority of the fuel hose port on the tank. but leaves a little room on the sides.

the only modification to the seat is the need to reverse the side mount brackets so they sit closer to the frame.

then all you need to do is drill and tap the side frame and the rear fender. the seat fits pretty well, there is slight pressure to get the passenger seat to stay flush with the rear fender, but not much. it makes the bike look pretty slick.

This would also be a good solution for a shorter rider as it pushes you forward, in my case, it moved my knees from the back tip of the tank wings to past the middle of them.

Much to close for my liking as I am about 6'3" with long arms, hehe.

So its not being used, sitting. at least it was a relatively cheap lesson. LOL. Hope this helps...

The seat from the B1 and B2 VN800 doesn't fit properly on the VN750. Thats what I've got on mine. The riders part of the seat is too short, so you either slide the seat a long way forward or you have a gap between the seat and the tank. I'm 6 foot so I went for the gap between the seat and the tank.

Seat

I just tried an experiment myself with seats. I found a 900 custom seat on E-Bay and it just arrived today. It actually fits pretty good and moves me back a touch which is a bonus. There is a small gap in between the tank and the front of the seat which I can work with and I still have to fab a bracket to secure the back to the bike. I'm very pleased though! I'll post pics when I get her finished.
