Anyone tried a custom gel seat?

I was wondering if anyone has personally tried to make the stock seat any better by adding some gel like this to their bike?

I imagine that you'd have to shave the stock foam a bit to allow clearance for the gel which is why I'd like to hear from someone who's perhaps tried this route before.

I am thinking real hard about getting an airhawk, but I like the idea of "fixing" the seat so that I don't need to put anything else on top of it too.

I'm planning on trying something like that. I bought a second stock seat and I want to try cutting it down to a solo. (Have to configure some sort of attachment obviously.) I have a gel seat like that someone gave me as a gift and my thought was to try to us it alone. Take all the foam of the stock pan, cut it down, and then recover with the gel pad as the padding.

Don't know when I'll get around to it, but I thought I'd give it a try.

I didn't do it to my Vulcan, and I didn't *personally* do it to my Ninja 650 seat, but I had a pro do it. For about $75 he swapped out the stock foam for better and added the long distance gel into it. I like it even better now. Check out greatdaytoride.com if you don't have the DIY skills and want more info.
