throttle tube (handle mount) broken :(

Hey guys. This doesnt quite fit into any of the main subforums so i figured I'd put it in here.

I was taking my throttle cables off to lube them, and of course my caveman brain and sausage fingers are notorious for breaking plastic things when working on cars. well, as expected it has transferred over to my motorcycles now too.

I broke the little plastic mounting hole where the throttle cable locks in to the handle tube/grip assembly.

I cant seem to find an OEM replacement online anywhere???
are there any good aftermarket solutions?? thanks in advance!

Did you check ebay? Also, some handgrips come with a new sleeve.

How badly is it broken? A small piece broke off mine at the same place, I'm still using it.

i did check ebay, the one that i found is broken in the same exact spot lol

It's bad enough that it wont stay in place without the missing piece.
I think for now im going to put a dab of plastic weld there, and then at some point replace the whole thing when i take it apart next time.

What is the size of our oem bars? 1"??

Bars are 7/8".

If it broke just the thin tabs that are on each side of the slot, I found that once it's all put together, the cable can't slip out anyway. If the hole is broken out, that's a problem.

If you try to glue it, make sure the glue doesn't stick on the cable end, it has to pivot slightly when the throttle moves.

A while back we were buying those Kuryakyn ISO grips from ebay for under $25, they came with a throttle tube. Which reminds me, I should have the stock throttle tube in my parts box. I'll take a look later.

I'll have to double check, but i might have my stock grips. I can't remember if i tossed them or not. The rubber isn't the best, but you can slip that off the plastic tube. i'll check when i get home.

I called one of the larger powersports dealers in town and was able to order it in for 27$ with a grip attatched. i felt it was worth it rather than going aftermarket and having the spacing be off.

For future reference Partzilla has really good pricing on OEM parts. I bought aftermarket grips and had to swap in the OEM tube because the cables didn’t quite line up. $27 ain’t bad, they had it for $20 + shipping so probably close

Just looked at the tubes on ebay, several under $10.

Didn't have any problems with spacing on the new grips.

I mean the spacing on the cable mounts themselves. lots of people said they needed shaving etc, or that the diameter of the tube itself was too loose on the bars. stuff like that I wanted to avoid.

If i ever break another one I'm going to upgrade to an aluminum one
