rear wheel removal.

Sorry still new to all this VN business. But need some help. How easy is it to remove the rear wheel. I have previously only dealt with chain bikes and the shaft drive is making me nervous. Can someone please give me a link to where I can find out how to do this or advise me please. Thanks

removal is not difficult..

the service manual has detailed steps, but its pretty straight forward. Also, its a good time to check the splines and clean/lube if needed

Thank you. will take a look. Dont have a service manual however. Have a Haynes. Hopefully be in there. Just hoping there was a photo step by step on here. Cheers.

it is not that difficult.....from memory: unbolt the shaft drive housing (4 bolts), unpin the bar holding the brake housing from rotating, undo the lower shock mounts and let the swing arm drop down, and remove the rear axle bolt (take note of where the spacers go)....it pretty much just slides out as long as you remove the license plate and put the bike center stand down on top of a 2X4....that gives just enough clearance to slide the rear wheel out the back.

You may have to put a piece of wood under the center stand to get the rear higher. Also secure the center stand to the front fork so that center stand can't collapse backward while you are working.
