time for a rear tire

Not sure as to what brand yet,but I need a rear tire. Any cons going with a 170 wide tire?

I did the kenda as wide as I could go. Same on the front. Awesome ride.

When I did it I went with the Metzlers. Very happy with them too.

X2 I went with oversize Kenda Kruz tires and am 100 % satisfied with them. I have 11,000 miles on the set and they only look half worn. Great tires and cheaper.

The only downside I found to 170s was a slightly smaller rolling diameter depending on the brand, so higher RPM for any given speed. Check manufacturers' specs if you're worried about that. On the upside, a lot of tires are cheaper in 170/80 vs 150/90, like the Commander II.

Those and the Metzeler 888 are supposed to last a lot longer than anything else. I got mine for less than 120 so I'm hoping it saves money, or at least breaks even and saves me some hassle with fewer mountings/balancing than a stack of cheap shinkos.

I loved my MT66 on my VN750. Gypsey Michele turned me on to them and I never looked back. They felt awesome in turns. I can only compare their performance with the stock Dunlap (I believe) tires which came with my bike when I bought it in 95.

I have ME880 Metzelers on my VN900. They were highly rated and on sale. The ME888 were not out yet in the size I wanted.
