pot holes and bumps

Hi folks, My Vn is a '93.. don't know if the folk oil and springs have ever been changed... she hits hard on the bumps.. I try to avoid the pot holes.. would it soften the blows if I change it out?..

Mine is a '93 also. Last season I noticed bad suspension on front; hard on bumps, and seemed like the tire left the roadway. I found very old oil, water intrusion ( creamy white) and a difference in oil amounts. I drained, swabbed inside. Replaced with required amount of oil. Also my spacers were 9 5/8" long. I cut new ones @ 10 3/16". Ride a lot nicer over bumps, and the rebound keeps the tire on the ground more. Very noticeable feel of control.

cool, thank you.. but, I'm a bit confused.. you have to cut the springs to length?... I figured I could get a pre fabbed kit.. I do like you idea of increasing the the length.. you talking about the spring right?.. I'm newby mechanic.. I fixed some electrical issues and changed the ACCTs ..about it.. but, I love this bike..and I wanna do her right..

He's talking about the preload spacers, not the springs.

The stock springs are ok.try changing your fork oil first.then play with preload if you are not happy.might even go with a lighter oil.some of the other guys will chime in that are a little more knowledgeable than me.I have played with other bikes forks but not my Vulcan yet
