Quick Question

Just wanted to know how far everyone has to pull the front lever in before you are at a full stop? I got my new calipers (thanks Cindy!!) and installed them today. I have about 1"-1 1/4" pull and my tire is stopped. Is this normal? My father has a Yamaha Road Star (dual disc) and I rode his to try out the front brake and his is about the same, 1" or so pull and it's full stop. Just wanted to know what everyone else was experiencing! Thanks!

Hey! Glad you got 'em already! Who knows what it would've cost to get them there....today by special delivery.

The "feel" of the front brake is a little tricky. I couldn't tell you how much movement I have in the lever, but I can tell you when it's right. "Right" means that when you pull the lever it doesn't feel "soft" and "squishy," but that you have a pretty clean reaction between pulling the lever and the brakes stopping the bike. No squish. That's the best I can offer you. Perhaps someone else has a more robust vocabulary this evening?

Well I definitly know that I'm getting a clean reaction between pulling the lever and the brakes stopping the bike. They don't feel soft or squishy in the least bit, which I guess is a good thing. I think they'll be all set, I did a 25 or so mile run just a second ago and the rotors aren't hot or anything, which again is a good thing. I don't have a squeak or anything. Thanks to Cindy I have brakes that will actually stop me now!

Thank you sooooo much Cindy, it's nice to know that there really is people out there that really want to help out others. Karma at it's best! I cannot thank you enough!

Sounds to me like your brakes are working just as they should be.
I've never really paid attention to how far the lever actually pulls back either.
But like Cindy mentioned, if it weren't 'right', I could tell by the feel.

Well no congrats just yet.....I need to know how to take apart the master cylinder....anyone have any idea how? I can't seem to get the plunger out from it....does it unscrew? I tried pulling it, but nothing....I think my return orphase is clogged and this is why my brake is tightening up with pressure. Any help would be great. Thanks!
