This is what Dunlop says about radial tires and motorcycles.

Can I change my tires from bias ply to radial or vice versa?

Bias and radial tires have significantly different dynamic properties. They deflect differently, create different cornering forces, have different damping characteristics, as well as other differences. In order for radial tires to be introduced into the two-wheel market, it was necessary to change certain characteristics of the motorcycle. The introduction of the radial tire led to such things as modified frames, wider wheels, new steering geometries and suspensions. Therefore, it is recommended that a motorcycle be used with the type of tire construction that it came with originally. If a change is to be made, then it should only be done if the motorcycle or tire manufacturer has approved the change. Above all, do not mix bias ply and radial tires on the same motorcycle unless it is with the approval of the motorcycle or tire manufacturer.


As far as I know radials are not recommended, but I could be wrong.

I don't know enough about radials for bikes to correctly answer that.
However they are right about mixing Bias and Radials. It would be the same as doing it on a car. The suspension geometry would be out of whack.
I'm running Shinko's on my VN700 and they work great. Both are stock size. I'm not sure if they are radials or not. I think they are but I could be wrong.
My bike had Bias tires on it, and it wandered really badly, especially on an uneven road.
After I put on the Shinko's, it handled completely different. Rides better, tracks better and corners better.
Someone with more experience on the tires will chime in pretty soon I can imagine.

Not sure if a 120 would fit, need that answer from somone that has attempted. Oversized tires on motorcycles are a whole new larger issue...

As for it being a radial, run it, nothing wrong with it. I would never run a bias on a bike, if it had one it would be removed. Only time I would ever want a bias tire on anything, is an oversized off road tire on a truck and maybe dirt bikes.

Dunlops answer is simply a liability answer to protect themselves, means nothing.

I disagree. If your bike came with bias ply tires from the factory that is all you should use. Ditto if they were radials.

Suspension is designed from the tire up, so how the bike is set up should not be altered.

That said, there are likely bikes that switching from one type to another won't make a big diffrence. I never paid attention to this so I don't even know what type of tire the Vulcan 750 came with.

I do know my Yamaha tires clearly say "radial" on them.

My only question to here is...... why? So you can save a few bucks by using some odd asss profile tire? Hell, there's folks putting car tires on these things......LOL

i didnt even think about the bias / radial aspect i was merely asking if the 120 would fit and was it a good price and was it inside the dot stamp i know i need new rubber but im really a cheap bastard so i have been shoping around for a good deal on a used set
