Front axle

Hello,

I was looking over my bike the other day and noticed a hole in the front axle on the right side where a cotter-pin might sit. Been trying to find pictures to see if one is supposed to go there or not.

Any comments?

I only understand what I don't understand.

Hi Blaz,

That hole helps you hold the axle whilst tightening the nut on the opposite side to torque specs. I use a large punch tool.

X2 or to help you pull the axle out with a large punch or large phillips head screwdriver

If it makes you feel better you can put a cotter pin in there.

Normally you would find a hole through the threaded part of an axle , so the pin would keep the axle nut from falling off or loosening. As the other end of the axle is on solid piece... Putting a pin in there would do absolutely nothing. I have seen one vulcan rider used the hole to attach his ride bell.
