Brake pads rubbing

Hi,

The brake pads on my fix-up 2000 VN750 are rubbing on their rings. Not too much, I can still move the wheel, but more than you want and with a slight rasping noise.

I was wondering, since this is my first Real Motorcycle, if you can do a brake adjustment somewhat like what you'd do for a bicycle: fiddle with the play an see if you can hit that sweet spot.

Failing that, what are my options? The bike is in decent shape but has many small imperfections, stuck bolts, cracked tubes and since this is my braking system, should I just replace it?

Cracked tubes? Yeah, replace those.

The front pads do scrape the disc and make some noise, when you roll the bike around..... This is normal.

Does sound like it you need to clean an replace some parts.

By "cracked tubes" I hope you mean rubber hoses, and not steel frame tubes. Yikes!!

The maintenance schedule calls for replacing the rubber hydraulic brake hoses on the front every 4 years. You might want to consider these permanent stainless steel lines instead. And I think they are even less expensive than Ma Kaw`s OEM hoses.
