How to disconnect the speedometer cable from the speedometer housing?

The question is a simple one but for some reason I'm having a devil of a time trying to figure out how does one disconnect the speedometer cable from the speedometer housing?

My speedometer stopped working because my cable snapped in the middle. It's easy to disconnect from the wheel area, but dang if it isn't being stubborn with coming out of the housing. So what is the trick?

I've got a few days no doubt while I wait on Bikebandit to send my new speedometer cable to collect some knowledge from the community here.

Thanks in advance for the replies,
Michael
