Front wheel wobbles on axle (!!)

Bought this bike about a month ago and noticed a little low-speed shudder in the front wheel. At first, I thought the rotors were a little warped, then I realized it was happening regardless of whether the brakes were being applied.

After a brief examination, it turns out I can tilt the front wheel on it's axle! I can wiggle it about 2 degrees side-to-side. WTF! Dangerous

I'm thinking either new bearings or new wheel. Neither seems like a huge hit to the wallet. Going to try taking off the wheel tonight for a closer look.

Passenger backrest & bar hacked off with a coping saw
Seat crudely mounted to rear with door hardware
Kury Grip on throttle, shredded rubber on left grip

Riding checklist:

-Texas Pete
ALL SET!

When mine did that it was the bearings here is the part number 601B6302U $12.54 each from ronayers.com you might be cheaper to go through a bearing supplier.

On mama Kaw's bearings the first numbers are the parts fiche location the numbers after the letter are the "industry number" U denotes it is a sealed bearing. Here is the link to the page at www.bearingsdirect.com you will need the 2 sides rubber sealed

Finally took off the wheel to investigate the wobble. It is not good.

Where there's supposed to be a self-contained axle bearing and globs of grease, there's this:

Rusty metal shavings and loose ball bearings At least now I know what the problem was. New bearings are cheap, thank goodness.

that happened to me, go buy a bearing puller from harbor freight for about 20 dollars (the one that when you screw it in it spreads) and pull it out. I will post a pick of my puller tonight. So, don't worry it is not the end of the world.
