Front wheel binds when axle nut is tightened

Hello, all. I'm new here.

I have a '93 VN750, and I just got done doing forks seals, oil and a new front tire. Upon mounting the front wheel, I noticed something:

With the right spacer and speedo drive (left spacer) in place, when I tighten the axle nut (not to a specified toque -- just enough from holding the right side with a screwdriver, and using a 19mm box wrench), the wheel doesn't spin freely anymore.

Some troubleshooting that I've already done:

-- The axle pushes in by hand, so I don't think I have a bent fork tube or stanchion; I don't think the bind is coming from the forks.

-- to make sure that I don't have anything bent, I loosened the fender bolts as well as the top and bottom triple pinch bolts -- to where the tubes spin in the triples. But I get the same result.

-- I *THINK* I have the speedo drive in the right way (I don't have a service manual); it seems to notch in to the fork leg only one way that makes sense, relative to the angle of the speedo cable.

-- The wheel bearings operate smoothly, and the distance collar is intact.

I'm out of ideas.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Are the tabs on the speedo drive correct inside the wheel hub? Are the brake pads on the callipers properly?

Edit...Is the larger end of the spacer away from the wheel hub?

I didn't take the speedo 'drive' out of the hub, and this is with the calipers still off. Of course, it didn't occur to me to check and see how it spun before taking it all apart, but I don't see how it could've been like this and lasted as long as it has.

Thanks for the thoughts, guys...

I had the same thing when I put the spacer on backwards and it rubbed on the wheel bearing cover. Thats why I thought of that. lol

Thanks, guys!

Many thanks to you guys... You were basically all right.

When I took it all apart, the stamped steel speedo drive tang that sits in the hub was football-shaped. I probably did that assembling the wheel incorrectly.

I had a spare wheel, so I took it out of that. It's all good now.

Thanks again!
