Transmission whine?

I just purchased a 2005 vn750 with 7k mi and one thing I've noticed is that the transmission seems to whine rather loudly. My '95 (14k mi) doesn't make this sound at all, nor did it before using synthetic. Clutched/stopped, just a small rev increase and I can hear a similar whine... in all honesty I'm not convinced it is solely the transmission.
I haven't had a chance to change the oil yet, but the dealer claims they did it although they did overfill just a bit (level is still barely visible in window).
Since these are the only two Vulcans I've ridden for comparison, is this gear whine sound normal?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Transmission whine?

It's not what I would call normal.

Things to check would be:

1. Rear drive gear oil level (change it since it's inexpensive to do)

2. Grease the splines on the drive shaft front and rear.

3. Change oil and oil filter.

4. Check rear axle bolt and torque to specs.

5. Check drive shaft outer housing bolts and torque to specs.

Just some thoughts.

Re: Transmission whine?

Thanks for the suggestions. I was planning on doing the spline lube anyway
