Clutch issue

With my bike on center stand and running, with the clutch in bike runs fine until it reaches fourth, and fifth gear. Fourth and fifth seem to chug and clang a bit however no noise. Also when the clutch is let loose in any gear the bike stalls. this bike is an 02 and i only picked it up a few days ago. Am i in the right direction of it being clutch? I also read several posts about clutch plates sticking - are these the symptoms? I was told trans may be shot from the previous owner - but also read here the trans is very difficult to break. Any help would be great.

Thanks

i should mention that the bikes handle bars are 12 in apes, and new clutch cables were needed if that makes a point i'm not sure

only wires i see is the three prong clip near the clutch handle - thats plugged in. When it's not plugged in the bike won't start at all. Im guessing thats the clutch switch - i hope

Clutch lever switch seems to be working, since it dies when you release it.

I'd check the sidestand switch. Probably stuck in the 'down' mode. (contacts inside the switch)

Is this with the bike on the center stand only? Have you tried actually riding the bike?

if the bike is on center stand, with side stand down, there is no way for the idiot switch circuits to know the center stand is down (there are NO switches for it). if side stand is down, it will shut off ignition as soon as the clutch lever is released.

a little cleaning of the side stand switch fixes the majority of this issue, or bypassing it altogether

hello and thanks for the help - haven't rode the bike yet as i was informed from previous owner if the trans was bad as he thinks - there is a probable that metal fragments could be pushed through the machine - but even if bike was running through gears on center stand wouldn't that cause same issue? Need to drain oil and see what that reads i suppose before i try riding.

He also mentioned that the bike will ride but only with clutch pulled in - said quite annoying but can be done. I myself haven't tried anything off center stand - just incase he aint wrong
