Unhappy won't shift passed neutral

love your web sight. i just bought a 2005 at the end of may, i've put a little over 2100 miles on it. i absolutely love that bike, until yesterday, when my little buddy left me stranded with a few harley riders including my husband who is a harley mechanic(yikes). yup, quite a few friendly jokes went around! anyway, to make a long story as short as possible, after about 30 miles of riding with no problems (except for one of the harleys that spewed oil everywhere!!!), i came to a stop sign , put the bike in first started moving and it wouldn't shift into second gear, we pulled over and 3 guys could not get the bike past neutral. we trailered it home, backed it out of the trailer than backed it into the shed, when my husband easily popped into second gear, took it for a short ride and all was fine!!! what's up with that?? there were a few times when i would come to a stop and had to coax the bike into first gear, don't know if that has anything to do with the problem. just wanted to know if anyone has had this problem and can give some advice. by the way all the harley guys really like my bike:-)))

thanks, jane

Re: won't shift passed neutral

Your bike is too new to have problems. Take it back to the dealer and have them fix this under warranty.

Re: won't shift passed neutral

The VN750 has something called the "Positive Neutral Finder". The way it is suppose to work is when the bike is not moving; it will not let you put it into second gear when the bike is in second gear.

In your case, during the ride, there was no way anyone would be able to put it into second gear because the bike was not moving (just a guess).

If the happens again, put it back in first and speed up a little more (somewhere between 4 to 7k on the tack), then try to shift into second.
